Black History Explorers Exhibit

February is Black History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the important contributions and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. In Oakville, the CCAH (Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton), Oakville Museum, and Oakville Public Library have come together to present a special event called the Black History Explorers Exhibit. On February 16th, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., families can immerse themselves in a day of educational and entertaining activities centered around learning and celebrating Black history.

The event takes place at the Carriage House on Erchless Estate, with the main entrance located at 8 Navy St.

The Oakville Public Library will be hosting story time sessions, where children and adults can gather to hear captivating tales highlighting Black history. For those feeling creative, a craft corner will be set up by the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton. Families can engage in hands-on activities that encourage artistic expression while staying true to the theme of Black history.

Are you looking for a fantastic way to spend your Family Day? With mesmerizing Steelpan and Parang performances, instrument workshops, and engaging arts and crafts, this is a day you won’t want to miss!

On February 19th, from 10:00 a.m. onwards, the talented Steelpan and Parang players will take the stage to showcase their incredible musical talent. Immerse yourself in the lively rhythms and melodies of these Caribbean music traditions. The infectious beats of the steel drums paired with the lively Parang tunes will captivate audiences of all ages.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Following the performances, try your hands at playing the instruments yourself. The skilled musicians will be on hand to provide guidance and teach you the basics.
